If you haven't been sucked into a black hole of Insta stalking before and after photos of microbladed eyebrows by now, then frankly we applaud you.

This is the semi-permanent secret to faking fuller eyebrows that look totally natural, microblading is the hassle-free solution to spending hours penciling in your eyebrows only to get the shape so completely wrong.

What is microblading?

Microblading is a type of eyebrow architecture. It is all about creating the best shape for each face.

The process is very precise thanks to the tool that is used which is effectively like a pen with the nib being a sloped blade with 10-12 little needles at the end - needles that don’t penetrate the skin but just delicately scratch the surface, much like a paper cut.

The needle very finely implants featherweight strokes with a medical grade pigment on the epidermis layer of the skin, creating fine natural-looking hair strokes.

How are microblading eyebrows different from having your brows tattooed?

Microblading, unlike tattooing, is not in the deep layer of skin, but more on the surface. This is also not permanent, and the color fades within 18 months.

What is microshading and how is it different from microblading?

The techniques may sound confusingly similar but microblading and microshading are totally different, we promise. Both techniques are forms of semi-permanent make-up for your eyebrows, but they have a few subtle important differences.

Compared to the super precise individual hair look of microblading, microshading has a much softer finish.

Microshading is the technique used to create powdery ombre brows. While microblading is used for creating tiny hair-like strokes, microshading creates tiny dots along your brows for a less defined powdery finish.

Not sure which technique is best for you? Fear not!

Technicians often combine both methods to create the most realistic and natural finish… also known as combo brows.

Can you be allergic to microblading?

There are people who are sensitive and allergic to some pigments, but this is extremely rare. Our technicians always perform a patch or scratch test to quickly check for any allergic or adverse reactions before getting started.

What actually happens when you get your eyebrows microbladed?

  • We shape the brow area and prepare the skin for the treatment.

  • Numbing takes approx. 20mins using a topical ointment. While numbing, we’ll show you color swatches and discuss the best shade for your desired look.

  • Once the numbing is complete, we map the brows by measuring the area around the brows, taking into account face shape, symmetry, and facial features.

  • After the brows are mapped, we begin the needling process - gently implanting the pigment via featherweight strokes.

  • Each stroke is a superficial line in the skin where the pigment seeps in and settles.

  • If there is any discomfort at this stage we add another quick layer of numbing cream to the area.

  • Microblading is a layering process, after we add on the final layer of stokes and shading, we cover the brows with a pigment mask that stays on for 5mins.

  • Once we clean the area, and et voila – beautiful brows!

  • A retouch appointment is recommended within 6-8 weeks of your initial session to fill in any gaps that may flake off during the healing process.

What happens after my initial appointment?

You'll need to follow the after-care instructions and avoid any picking or scratching. Your eyebrows will start to heal over, much like a tattoo, which might cause irritation and flaking but is totally normal.

During the healing process, your eyebrows will change color, might become flaky, and look like they've faded but this is totally normal. They'll reveal their final color and shape after 30 days.

Aftercare kits containing a 30 day supply of products needed to help maintain a proper healing process are available for purchase. Please book your retouch appointment after the healing process is complete.

How do you know what eyebrow shape to go for? Should we bring pictures?

Clients are welcome to bring in images of the style of brow they like or come in with the brow makeup they normally wear on a day-to-day basis. Your technician will use their expertise to help you determine the perfect color and shape based on your unique features.

GET THE RIGHT COLOUR MICROBLADING...

People come in and tend to want darker brows than suggested, but it's always better to go a little more natural – you can always add more during the retouch appointment to achieve that darker bolder brow look.

We help you determine the best color based on your natural hair color, eye color, and skin tone. We also take into account how your skin will change with sun exposure to ensure we select the best pigment for your treatment.

GET THE RIGHT SHAPE MICROBLADING...

Our technicians measure your eyebrows using microblading rulers and mapping string to create the perfect brow shape which is unique to each client.

Microblading lasts between 18-24 months, but the longevity of the pigment will depend on your skin type.

People with slightly more oily skin will tend to last around the 12-month mark before needing a retouch.

The brows will naturally begin to fade to your normal skin tone after approx. 18-24 months, if you do not stay consistent with the yearly retouch appointments.

Does microblading hurt?

It doesn’t hurt, it is more of a sensation. The process itself is not painful thanks to the numbing ointment that is applied. It's sometimes the sound of the blade that people find uncomfortable – a small scratching sound as we apply the strokes.

The entire process is very quick – it's actually the numbing and mapping that takes most of the time, you aren’t under the needle for the entire 2-hour session.

Can microbladed eyebrows be undone/removed?

Yes – the pigment used leaves no scarring or discoloration, and we can use a salt/saline solution to remove microbladed brows.

It is very important to know and understand that brows will be up to 40% darker in shade for the first 7-10 days during the healing process where scabs can form and flake off.

Clients can sometimes leave the studio, and two days later be terrified that their brows are too dark, but please be patient – as this is totally normal! After 7-10 days, you will begin to see the final color.
